How to make raisin biscuits – European style
Raisin Buns
(translated long ago from a German recipe for Rosinenschnecken or "raisin snails")
All measurements in metric units. If the U.S. ever wants to switch to the metric system, I'm all for it. :)
Part 1:
250g quark or use 200g cream cheese + 50g sour cream (works just as well)
250g butter
250g flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla (or vanilla sugar)
1 teaspoon baking powder
Part 2:
50g butter
Part 3*:
100g raisins
50g crushed almonds
1 teaspoon cinnamon
50g sugar
Part 4:
powdered sugar
lemon juice
* If you don’t like raisins or are allergic to nuts, you can substitute with whatever works for you.
Mix all ingredients in Part 1 and knead with mixer, then with hands. Wrap dough in foil. Put in refrigerator for 1 hour. Prepare Part 3 by mixing all ingredients in a bowl. Set aside. Put flour on working surface and roll dough into a 40 x 60 cm square (use a baking ruler for trimming and measuring). Heat 50g butter (Part 2) and brush on dough. Sprinkle mixture (Part 3) on top of the dough. Roll up dough from the narrow side (40 cm side; use ruler to help roll up the dough). Heat oven to 200°C (392°F). Cut dough roll into 20 pieces with sharp, wet knife. Place pieces on greased baking sheet. Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Prepare icing (Part 4) by mixing a few tablespoons of lemon juice and some powdered sugar. Apply icing generously while raisin buns are cooling off.

Anyone need anything from the refrigerator?"
Door in the distant right is the entrance to the bath and bedroom area and to the dining room. Stairway landing behind the photographer leads to former front step, which was later enclosed to make a narrow front hallway and garage entrance.
